I first learned of the Patient-Teacher Registry through the Organic Acidemia Association website. I was looking for materials to enhance my Inherited Metabolic Disorders course, and I was thrilled to discover such an innovative option. Soon thereafter, I reached out for more information.
Process: The whole experience of securing a patient-teacher was superb! From our initial conversation to finding the speakers to the actual class session, the process was quick and seamless. Only days after my initial inquiry, I heard from an interested patient-teacher.
Class Session: Genuinely, the session was the best, most rewarding class experience I’ve been part of. I am so grateful that the patient-teachers joined us, and my students absolutely loved it. The presentation was interactive, open and engaging, and my students were able to connect with the disorder and patient/family experience, far beyond what they already learned through textbooks and published medical literature. No doubt, this unique experience will stay with them for many years to come.
